The Mindful Reflection Project has grown out of my experience as a life long student and long time teacher. I have always been interested in the ways in which we come to relationship, and practices that enable us to craft more authentic community. All of my  life, I have been involved in active exploration of my own inner landscape– with the real belief that the more I  access and understand it, the more I can truly connect to the work I am meant to do in this life, and to others. We all have the capacity, given tools and support, to access a deeper understanding of ourselves and a deeper compassion for the world we live in.

I have studied creative writing and movement; yoga and mindfulness; I have a BA in Human Studies and an MA in Health Arts and Sciences. My professional career has been in the mindfulness and yoga field, as well as in education. I have been lucky to have studied in very progressive institutions.

The Mindful Reflection Project integrates my life experiences  and is crafted on elements that I have found in all educational, learning and spiritual communities I have been part of that were supportive,  that invited all of me to the process of participation. The MR programs invite participants to create space for their own offerings in their lives moment to moment.  The program is rooted in my own practices, and I am dedicated to utilizing the program in a way that invites participants’ practices and histories to the process we share.

This work is inspired by mindfulness practices and the ideas of Parker Palmer. As an educator, Palmer’s work is grounded on the idea that teachers teach what they know, and that connecting to the inner life of the teacher is essential to being an effective teacher. The Mindful Reflection Project  is founded on the belief that no matter what we do, connecting to the why of it is essential for doing it in a way that best supports us and those around us. Mindfulness practices teach us to notice what happens around us and within ourselves in response to what is around us; the basic goal of mindfulness practice is to help us to train our minds to be more fully present in the moment, less reactive to the world we engage with. Breath awareness allows us to learn tools to access and calm our nervous systems in times of stress, thus helping us to gain awareness of our emotions through our awareness of our breath/body. The Mindfulness Reflection Project seeks to support others to create space within themselves for a life lived more fully in the present moment.

The Teacher Reflection portion of this project was first developed and refined as an offering for teachers at The Children’s Community School, which I co-founded in 2010 and it is an essential part of the Professional Development and Teacher Support program there.
